The pension account brings together your defined-contribution pension and pension capital certificate in one place. This means better overview, lower costs and opportunities for more in retirement.

Choose your pension provider yourself
You receive a pension account with the provider that your employer has chosen, but you are free to transfer to another provider. On this page you will find good reasons to have your pension account with us.

Who receives an individual pension account?

What does an individual pension account mean?

On 1 February 2021, defined-contribution pension from your current employer and Pension capital certificateFrom previous employers collected in one place – completely automatically. The own pension account scheme was established with your employer's pension provider. You must still pay for the management of pension capital certificates, but you get the same favourable price as your employer has on defined-contribution pension. This means better overview, lower costs and opportunities for more in pension.

How does the transfer of pension capital certificates to my pension account work?

When you have registered the transfer of pension capital certificates with Norsk Pensjon, the current provider will start the transfer process. The entire process can take up to 30 days, but it usually goes faster. Fund units are sold by the current provider and new fund units are purchased by DNB. This is done as quickly as possible, but the money will be out of the market for a few days in connection with the sale and purchase. Since new fund units are purchased, this will be registered as a payment into your pension account and previous rate of return will therefore not be visible. The transfer process is the same whether you choose to expedite or wait for the automatic transfer of pension capital certificates to your pension account.

What is included, and what is not included in the own pension account scheme?

Defined-contribution pension and pension capital certificate are automatically included in the own pension account scheme, but you can also include certain individual pension agreements. An overview of which of your agreements can be included can be found at Norsk Pensjon.

Agreements that cannot be included in the own pension account scheme are public occupational pension schemes, contractual early retirement pension (AFP), defined-benefit pensions, hybrid pensions, paid-up policies, pension certificates, certain individual pension agreements, defined-contribution pensions under payout and own pension savings.

Available unit-linked products on your own pension account (egen pensjonskonto), the own pension account scheme are determined by your employer. You can find information about your options under 'My Pension' in the online bank and in the Spare app. If you would like more investment options than those in your employer's agreement, you can choose a self-selected pension account.

What is a pension profile?

When and how can I start withdrawals from my individual pension account (IPA)?

You decide when you want to start withdrawals from your individual pension account (IPA), but you can start at the earliest when you turn 62. The withdrawal period must last for a minimum of 10 years and at least until you are 77. This means a minimum withdrawal period of 15 years if you start withdrawals at age 62.

A few months before you turn 62, the option 'Start withdrawal of retirement pension' will appear under 'Pension and Insurance' and 'Manage my agreements' in the online bank. Here you can specify when and what proportion you wish to withdraw, and which account number you want the payment transferred to. Log in with BankID from your bank.

What happens to my pension account if I leave my job?

If you leave your job, you will receive a pension capital certificate. This represents accrued pension savings from the company you have worked for. If you start with a new employer that offers a defined-contribution pension, you will receive an own pension account with your new employer's pension provider. The pension capital certificate will be transferred to your pension account. If you do not receive an own pension account with your new employer, the pension capital certificate will remain where it is. You can still accumulate pension capital certificates and make changes to unit-linked products.
